Mr Christopher Shearer
Consultant General Surgeon
MBChB, MD, FRCS (General Surgery)
Mr Christopher Shearer is a Consultant General Surgeon with subspecialty interests in upper gastrointestinal, laparoscopic and weight loss surgery. His NHS practice is based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. He is the secretary of the Severe and Complex Obesity Treatment Service (SCOTS) group.
A graduate from the University of Glasgow in 1995, Mr Shearer embarked on postgraduate General Surgical training in the West of Scotland.
He obtained a travelling fellowship in 2005 to the University of Pennsylvania, USA, specialising in weight loss surgery before spending 18 months at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia as a Surgical Fellow and University Lecturer before returning to Scotland.
Mr Shearer has introduced weight loss surgery to Forth Valley since becoming a Consultant Surgeon in 2007. At the Stirling Weight Loss clinic, prospective surgical patients will be assessed to determine the most appropriate weight loss treatment for them.
Dr Christopher Kelly
MBChB, MD, FRCP(Gla)
Dr Christopher Kelly is a Consultant Physician with an interest in diabetes and endocrinology. Dr Kelly's NHS practice is based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
Dr Kelly graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1991 and completed 10 years of specialist training in Endocrinology in the West of Scotland. His MD thesis on Insulin resistance in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome was awarded in 2002 from the University of Glasgow.
Dr Kelly was appointed as a Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in 2002. Since taking up post he was lead clinician in Forth Valley for the Diabetes Network between 2003-2008 and has developed a multidisciplinary approach to health care delivery. He has an interest in sport and diabetes and actively collaborates with the University of Stirling's School of Sport.
Dr Vivien Swanson
BA (Hons)., PhD., PGCE, Dip. Psychol, CBT Cert.
Dr Vivian Swanson is a practicing Health Psychologist with UK British Psychological Society Chartership since 2002.
She was awarded a PhD in Psychology from the University of Stirling in 1997, and also has a postgraduate teaching qualification and a qualification in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
Dr Swanson has been a Health Psychologist at the University of Stirling since 2004, is Director of the Master's Course in Health Psychology and a member of the Centre for Health Behaviour Change.
She is an expert in health behaviour change, is active in research and has published widely. Her research focuses on applying psychological theory to promoting health, including work with stress, diabetes, overweight and obesity.
This recognizes that issues such as confidence, motivation and managing stress and emotions make an important contribution to people's ability to maintain a healthy life.
Dr Swanson has had clinical links with Forth Valley Diabetes service for several years, and has run projects aimed at improving health and self-management, and reducing stress for people with diabetes.
She believes in a positive, supportive and motivational approach, using proven, individually tailored techniques to help people get to where they want to be in relation to their weight and lifestyle.
Ms Kathryn Fraser
Dietitian BSc (Hons) RD
Ms Kathryn Fraser is a registered dietitian with nearly 20 years experience. She has been working as a specialist in diabetes and weight management for many years. Ms Fraser is particularly experienced in using behavioural change approaches with individuals. Her clinical expertise allows her to see patients with: diabetes, obesity and weight problems, cardiovascular disease, hypertension/high blood pressure, chronic disease, coeliac disease. She is also specialised in sports and exercise nutrition.
Ms Anne Clarke
Ms Anne Clarke is a registered dietitian with over 30 years experience within the NHS and University setting. She is a member of the British Dietetic Association and registered with the Health Professions Council. She has been working as a specialist in obesity management for many years and has more recently worked with the Counterweight project team. Anne uses behavioural change approaches with individuals and families in her day to day practice. Her main interests are weight management and the management of associated conditions, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Kris Henderson is a great advocate of a fit and active lifestyle and certainly practices what she preaches.
As a qualified Level 2 Fitness Instructor, Lifestyle Coach and the owner of central Scotland's only specialised running store - The Running Company shop in Bridge of Allan - Kris is able to combine her love of providing others the opportunity to get fit and active through her tailored programmes with generating an informed environment and advising on the correct equipment and sportswear.
An inspirational personal trainer and coach Kris has competed as a top amateur in many sports including cycling, hockey, rafting, swimming as well as synchronised swimming at national level and has now completed more than 10 international marathons, various endurance events as well as more recently taking part in locally organised Triathlons.
